Human Interest Story

Senior Master Sergeant Diana Lopez first called the Adoption Center as a result of seeing the Combined Federal Campaign ad in the Air Force Times. Diana was homestudied by the social worker on base and registered on the National Adoption Exchange.

As a prospective single mother, Sgt. Lopez was hoping to adopt a Latino girl up to 10 years old. She was eventually matched with a nine year old from Pennsylvania named Jessica. Jessica's social worker had placed children with military families stationed overseas in the past and was thrilled with the families, so the biggest hurdle was removed.

After corresponding by letters and phone calls, Sgt. Lopez came to the United States to meet her new daughter. The two hit it off immediately. Jessica was pleased because she had someone who could understand Spanish. Recently Lopez retired from the Air Force and the two now live in Texas.
