Jona, a little girl born in the Central Province of Kenya lost both of her parents during a tribal clash in the Rift Valley. She was left lying in the corner of her parent's mud hut and was rescued by Lisa, a 38 year old neighbor who was fleeing the dangers of the marauding tribal gangs. Lisa forced to abandon her home and possessions, left the Rift Valley with nothing except Jona. She made her way to a town in the Coast Province and was able to find work and support Jona and herself on $40 a month. At an early age Jona developed a sore at the base of her spine and had little mobility. At a year and a half she could not stand or walk and had to be carried. She also had clubfeet. It was determined that she had Spina Bifida. After attending one of our medical camps, Lisa contacted our field director in Nairobi. CMF was able to intervene on Jona's hehalf and located a surgeon who operated on Jona in a hospital in Mombasa. With physiotherapy and proper treatment it is hopeful that over time Jona will regain mobility and possibly some speech. This is just one child and her story. There are millions more that need our assistance. Your support will help us fulfill our mission.
