Assisting Children with Disabilities (ACWD) has helped in many situations during the past few years. However, one particular story needs to be told. John and Sally (not their real names) were married around eight years ago. Seven years ago their son Joseph was born. At the age of one, Joseph developed a rare form of cancer. Joseph had many treatments, and after three years the cancer was in remission. Later, Sally gave birth to twin boys. They also came down with the same disease and needed treatment. Soon their cancer was in remission. The treatments were covered by Insurance, yet the additional expenses were causing a financial strain upon this family. ACWD began helping John and Sally with the additional medical costs not covered by the insurance company. This relief has enabled John and Sally to continue with their lives. John was able to have their car repaired, and support his family with their daily needs. Until then he had to use public transportation to visit the children at the hospital. At present all three boys have been given an all-clear on this rare form of cancer. Their prognosis is good and the boys have been able to return to school. Although we are not allowed to show pictures of the children during treatment, their foreheads all had a large tumor the size of a softball. There are so many needs for children that have disabilities. Numerous stories like the one about John and Sally could be told.
